Explore Georgia
For many, the snowy Andes or Alps top the bucket list for ski adventures. However, Georgia's gorgeous Caucasus Mountains offer a rival experience — perhaps even better! With lesser crowds, serene slopes, affordable skiing, and warm hospitality paired with the world’s finest wines, Georgia stands out. For off-piste enthusiasts, Georgia’s winter escapes primarily include Gudauri, Kazbegi (Stepantsminda), Mestia, and Bakuriani.
Retreat into nature
Visit Bakuriani, a local favourite nestled in the Borjomi Municipality of southern Georgia. Said to be one of Georgia’s oldest winter resorts, Bakuriani is a skiing paradise. Another winter favourite is Bakhmaro, which is a serene and idyllic retreat, known as a spa resort.
Capital charm
Just like the mountains, the capital city, Tbilisi, transforms into a winter wonderland with its cosy cafes serving hot tea and mulled wine, along with charming holiday markets glowing with festive lights. A quintessential winter experience in the city is a visit to the ancient sulphur bathhouses, renowned for their healing properties.
Serene trails
Kazbegi, also known as Stepantsminda, has its greatest draw in Kazbegi Peak, offering unforgettable views. It also boasts breathtaking hikes and trails. The hike to the Gergeti Trinity Church is a classic. On your way to Kazbegi, stop at Mtskheta, the former capital of Georgia and home to outstanding medieval religious architecture, including the Jvari and Samtavro monasteries, as well as the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral — all UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Cosy delights
Do not miss the tea houses of Georgia, perfect for winding down after a day on the slopes. The scent of freshly baked nazuki — a sweet, spiced bread — is impossible to resist. Don’t miss out on vegetable stews, khachapuri (cheese bread), khinkali (Georgian soup dumplings), succulent kebabs, and vibrant salads. And a glass of local wine or gut-warming chacha (local alcoholic drink).
Ski wonders
Georgia has several skiing sites. Their marshmallow-like peaks and treeless expanses are a paradise for adrenaline junkies and powder enthusiasts alike. Most of the slopes feature gentle runs ideal for beginners as well as daring trails for seasoned pros.
