Off the field, on point
Cricketing icon Yuvraj Singh unveils his favourite Queenstown escapes, where luxury, adventure, and soulful moments come together effortlessly.
Legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh can never be far away from the world of cricket. As Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 unfolds, Singh remains very much in the thick of things, with his protégées, including Abhishek Sharma of team Sunrisers Hyderabad, thanking the iconic cricketer for shaping careers.
“IPL 2025 is buzzing with young talent – so many youngsters are raring to go, hungry to make their mark. What’s great to see is how franchises are backing them, and giving them the platform and the confidence. The league just keeps getting bigger, better, and more exciting every season. It’s the perfect stage for the next generation of cricketing stars,” says an excited Singh.
Beyond mentoring young players at his academy, Yuvraj Singh Centres of Excellence, Singh is deeply involved in social causes, particularly through his NGO YouWeCan Foundation, which supports the fight against cancer.
Singh’s love for food and travel is equally well-known. In fact, Yuvi, as he is fondly called, has often spoken about his love for traditional dishes like kadhi-chawal and rajma-chawal. Now, he’s taken that passion a step further with the launch of his new restaurant, KOCA (Kitchen of Celebratory Arts) in Gurugram.
“Food has always been personal to me, right from my mom’s home-cooked meals to discovering different cuisines during my travels. I always wanted to create a space where food isn’t just something you eat; it’s something you celebrate. That’s how KOCA was born. I wanted to bring the joy, warmth, and flair of global and Indian flavours under one roof in a way that reflects who I am today,” says Singh. He adds, “From Kadhi Chawal Risotto to Rajma Avocado Galouti, every dish tells a story, many of them from my life!” The restaurant uses local ingredients and also offers a thoughtfully curated vegan section. And his personal favourite? “Kadhi Chawal Risotto – it takes me back to my childhood,” he smiles.
Travel is another passion close to Singh’s heart. He considers himself fortunate that cricket gave him the opportunity to visit many countries. But his favourite getaway is Queenstown in New Zealand. “It’s truly special!” he says.

Indian sportsperson
Queenstown is, hands down, the most beautiful city I’ve ever visited.
It feels like it’s straight out of a movie. Every frame looks cinematic — the mountains, the lake, the stillness — and it all hits differently. There’s a sense of calm, of being away from the noise, and yet, it has a quiet energy that stays with you,” says Singh.
Adventure Hub
“If you’re an adventure junkie, bungee jumping, skydiving, or jet boating in Shotover Canyon is a must. Those not chasing a thrill can take the Skyline Gondola and watch the city from above. Lake Wakatipu is perfect for walks or just soaking in the view. If you get a chance, drive out to Glenorchy. It’s one of the most scenic drives in the world,” reveals Singh.
Retail love
Singh loves shopping in places that blend style and comfort. He says, “I’d check out O’Connell’s Building and then head to Remarkables Park Town Centre for a laid-back experience. The Creative Queenstown Art and Craft Market is a must-visit.”
Evening Muse
“You will find many places with DJs and dance floors. If you prefer a laid-back evening, there are cosy bars by the waterfront where you can unwind with a drink. Queenstown is all about good vibes,” Singh adds.
