Istanbul
Istanbul has a special place in my heart, a city where discovery feels endless. No matter how many times I visit, there’s always something new to explore.
The way Istanbul effortlessly bridges two continents and two vibrant cultures, is nothing short of mesmerising. To truly understand Istanbul, one must dive into both worlds — its storied past and its contemporary flair. From the majestic splendour of Topkapi Palace and the peaceful calls to prayer drifting from the Blue Mosque, to the bustling bazaars and stylish cafés, Istanbul offers an experience like no other.
I was there with my family recently, and we stayed in an old traditional house right next to Hagia Sophia. It was my first time experiencing the city’s historic essence, away from the usual crowd. Each morning, we wandered through the narrow lanes around Sultanahmet Camii (Blue Mosque), taking in the aroma of roasted chestnuts, often losing our way only to stumble upon hidden gems. Exploring Istanbul is more enriching when you read about the city beforehand. As an Elif Shafak fan, I’ve always admired her ability to intertwine Istanbul’s history in her stories. Her novel The Architect’s Apprentice offers a fascinating glimpse into the city’s architectural legacy. Similarly, Dan Brown’s Inferno brings to life the stunning Basilica Cistern, a 6th-century labyrinth.

Abu Dhabi
Celebrity Chef
My first trip outside India was to Abu Dhabi and it was here that I truly discovered the universal language of food. The city’s vibrant souks and spices felt like home, yet uniquely different. The warmth of its people and cuisine created an instant, unforgettable connection.
Ever since I opened my new restaurant Pincode in this beautiful city, it feels like a second home! The restaurant isn’t just about bringing Indian cuisine to an international audience — it’s about telling a story. Each dish here honours the diverse regions of India while embracing the local Emirati inspiration. It’s a blend of my roots and the city’s essence.
The journey from being a curious traveller to now being part of Abu Dhabi’s culinary fabric has been incredible. Abu Dhabi taught me that food is not just nourishment — it’s a connection. I hope to create memories for others, just as this city has created for me.

Mauritius
A beautiful landscape is a source of joy, but it can also be a healer. I felt nature’s healing powers for the first time on a recent trip to Mauritius. With its pristine beaches and lush greenery, Mauritius feels like a balm for the soul. In 2024, my husband, Ritesh Krishnan and I visited this paradise for a concert, and we returned feeling calmer and more at peace.
We stayed at the Maritim Resort & Spa, which has a stunning beach view. Every morning, Ritesh and I would sip our coffee while listening to the waves lapping against the sand — it was a tranquil experience! The ocean stretched to meet the distant mountains, a view so serene that it felt like nature’s gentle embrace.
Exploring the nearby Balaclava Marine Park was unforgettable. A boat ride took us to vibrant coral reefs, and even though I am slightly scared of water, the experience of seeing a kaleidoscope of marine life was exhilarating. You can also snorkel here for stunning views.
The sunsets were pure magic. One evening, my husband, my bandmates, and I gathered at the beach as the sun dipped below the horizon. We stood ankle-deep in the gentle waves, chatting and laughing. It was effortlessly relaxing — a moment of pure bliss

Doha
Doha isn’t just a destination for me — it gave me the most defining moment of my life. I was just 17 years old, when I travelled there for the Asian Shooting Championships, a stage that was as thrilling as it was intimidating. But Doha turned out to be more than a competition; it became the arena where my dreams took flight. Not only did I compete, but I triumphed. It was a golden memory etched forever in my journey as an athlete. I was there with my friends Abhishek and Chinki, and my coach.
We explored the local markets lining the bustling streets. I found myself captivated by the charm of local vendor stalls, each brimming with colourful wares and stories. The intricate cultural outfits on display seemed to whisper tales of tradition and history, while the vibrant diversity of people and their ways of life left me spellbound. It was my first time immersing myself so deeply in a culture so different from my own, and every moment felt like a revelation.

Ras Al Khaimah
Actor
As an avid traveller, I enjoy discovering new destinations across the world. Whether it’s cityscapes, wilderness spots, or anything in between – the joy of ticking off places on my wishlist is unparalleled. Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) is one such place — once a dream, now a cherished memory. This hidden gem in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), feels like stepping into a time capsule. Once a hub for ancient traders, its landscape is dotted with forts, museums, and watchtowers, whispering secrets of a rich, storied past.
With its strategic location near Dubai and rapidly growing infrastructure, it is becoming a popular spot for both leisure and business. The upcoming casino in the region (set to launch in a couple of years) will only add to the excitement!
When in Ras Al Khaimah, it’s hard to pick what I like the most — there’s adventure, culture, cuisine, and more. Just like a blockbuster film!
A man-made wonder, Al Marjan Island is stunning. It’s dotted with luxury resorts and beaches, but not many pay attention to its remarkable architecture and vibrant vibe. The drive up to Jebel Jais is also breathtaking, with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and desert. I love walking along the waterfront, soaking in the views of the sea and the city skyline.

Phuket
Thailand is synonymous with adventure sports, vibrant nightlife, and thrilling jungle treks. But beneath this adrenaline-fuelled exterior lies a gentler side — a realm of serenity and soul-soothing beauty. And for our babymoon, that’s exactly the side we sought to explore in Phuket.
This island paradise, known for its postcard-perfect beaches and emerald waters, became our sanctuary for reflection and reconnection. Mornings greeted us with the soft glow of sunrise over Kata Beach, where gentle waves kissed the shore as we strolled barefoot, savouring the stillness. Afternoons were reserved for relaxation, lounging by the water, sipping on fresh coconut water, and soaking up the unhurried rhythm of island life.
A visit to the Big Buddha provided a profound moment of peace. Standing before the majestic statue, its calm gaze seemed to echo our prayers for strength, wisdom, and boundless love for the journey ahead.
As the day faded into twilight, Phuket revealed its vibrant yet comforting charm. The lively night markets buzzed with life, yet their warmth felt cosy. We wandered through the stalls, selecting a tiny trinket — the first gift for our baby. One magical evening, a sunset cruise across Phang-Nga Bay enveloped us in awe as we drifted past dramatic limestone cliffs glowing in hues of gold and orange. Floating there, we dreamed aloud of the life we would create for our little one.
Phuket proved to be more than a destination. It was a serene pause before life’s greatest adventure, a place where calm embraced us and left us ready for the future.

Singapore
Economist
It was a flight ticket from London to Singapore in 1995 that changed my life! At the time, I was wrapping up my Master’s degree at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and my scholarship had come to an end. I was at a crossroads – pursue a PhD or take up a job. I chose the latter.
I had secured an interview with a prestigious London-based investment bank, but I received another interview invitation on the same date, from a not-so-well-known investment bank in Singapore. However, the position I was being offered by the latter was unique and promising! They had also sent me a first-class flight ticket and a three-day stay at a luxury hotel. I took the flight and landed the job, which paved the way for me to flourish in the finance market over the next 22 years.
Back then, Singapore had just become a first-world country. It was an interesting experience, as it still had the feel of a remote outpost. After the interview, I was taken out by my interviewers and tasted my first bowl of laksa! Thanks to that flight ticket, I became one of the first-generation economists in the global finance market!
